EDUCATION Secretary Justine Greening has been given a message by Queen’s Manor parents: “Please don’t rob Peter to pay Paul.”
Concerned parents wrote to local MPs Greg Hands and Andy Slaughter just before the election to protest at the Government’s proposed Fairer Funding Formula for schools.
Dozens of parents signed campaign letters asking the Government to rethink the proposals which it is estimated would result in QM losing around £28,000 a year.
Hammersmith MP Mr Slaughter made clear his opposition to the proposals while Mr Hands initially backed the Government’s proposal.
However after receiving “several hundreds letters of concern from local parents and schools”, Mr Hands, MP for Chelsea and Fulham, asked the Education Secretary to take parents’ concerns into consideration when carrying out a consultation on school funding.
In a letter to Ms Greening (pictured), he quoted the Queen’s Manor campaign letter which stated: “I strongly support the idea that all schools should receive fair funding and that previously under-funded schools should see increases, but not at the expense of children in schools like ours. I do not believe we should rob Peter to pay Paul.”
An announcement is expected soon on the final details of the new funding formula.
