TWO teams from Queen’s Manor took part in the first ever Brightwells Academy Trust Dragons’ Den last week.
Each entry presented for four minutes before being grilled by three Dragons – two Brightwells Members, Liz Wolverson and Tim Toulmin, and education consultant Christine Cosker (pictured left to right above with pupils).
The brief was to create something useful for boys and girls of their own age. Bags for survival or adventure proved very popular, displaying ingenious accessories and secret hiding places – including an eye-catching “inside-out” pencil case.
Six teams from QM, Fulham Primary and Sulivan took part. Pupils – all from Year 5 – were questioned on how they intend to make profits, what channels they would use to sell their products and even on health and safety considerations.
Mr Toulmin said: “The competitors had clearly put in a lot of hard work planning for the questions as they all had really answers.
“Excellent presentation skills were on display with lines learned off by heart, clear staging and, in some cases, multi-media presentations supporting the overall pitch.
“It was fabulous to see the Brightwells community coming together for such a challenging yet fun event.”
In the end, the Dragons opted to back a Fulham Primary School entry as their winner. The team received a trophy and voucher. All finalists got a certificate.
