Children in the Nursery and Reception classes follow the Early Years Foundation Stage framework, which incorporates the themes and principles as outlined in the Development Matters document.
The Prime areas of learning are:
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Physical Development
- Communication and Language
The Specific areas of learning are:
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
The Characteristics of Effective Learning are evident in all of the areas of learning and include:
- Playing and exploring (engagement)
- Active learning (motivation)
- Creating and thinking critically (problem solving)
A wide range of opportunities to support learning and development are planned and the children have access to a large and well-equipped outside area throughout the day.
Foundation Stage Profiles
Throughout their time in Nursery and Reception, profiles are compiled for children evidencing their achievements in all prime and specific areas of learning. Profiles are shared with pupils and their parents and we include comments and information about achievements and, milestones which are met at home.
